It's hard to believe that my little man is now a year old. He is currently 21 pounds and just under 30 inches tall. He's still a pretty wobbly walker but each day he seems to get a little further before landing on his bum. We celebrated the day by taking Kai to a sunflower field. He was a little frightened at first by how large the flowers were but his fear quickly turned to curiosity as he tried his best to deface the giant buds. We took him to our local shrine as well and thanked the Gods for a year of good health as well as asked them for many more to come. Unfortunately, it was a rather long day so by the time cake was served Kai didn't want any part of it. However, he did stop crying long enough to eat the cake and decide that he did in fact like it.
Love me!

His birthday meal of red snapper and sekihan rice, which is traditionally served on special occasions. (His portion was cooked of course)
Our cheerful attempt at singing Happy Birthday.

At the shrine

The happier part of the day.

Kai's wearing a traditional summer outfit that boys typically wear for festivals or special occasions. It was a present from Baba.
