Golden Week

We decided to pack up the kids and hit the road for Golden Week. We started with some local day trips then headed a bit south to the coast, then north to Utsnomiya and Nikko. We had a great time exploring new and wacky places. Although we've been here now for just about 5 years I am still constantly amazed at how much we have yet to see and experience.

Only in Japan would you be required to take your shoes off when picking strawberries and would you find a greenhouse so clean that you would be allowed to eat the fruit without washing it first. However, I'm sure they would have frowned upon my child eating the berries right off the vines.
Kai ODing on strawberries. We were allowed 30 minutes of picking and had to cut him off after 20. I have never seen such a small little dude eat so many berries.

No matter where we go he is constantly drawn to any form of water. We can take him to the most amazing place with all sorts of cool things to play on and yet he has the most fun playing with a water fountain.

I love the way he always takes Noah's face in his hands. He really is such a sweet older brother.
He loved going to the onsen and wearing his little robe afterward.
We were driving along after hitting a park and saw a sign for an ostrich farm and decided to check it out. They pretty much freaked us all out, since they are so ridiculously huge. However, we did thoroughly enjoy the ostrich meat that was for sale, which seemed like a rather macabre thing to be doing, but it really was very tasty.

It was tough getting this little one to come out.

I could only handle the real little ones, the larger ones were pretty aggressive and kind of scary. Kai kept telling me they stunk and were gross and someone should clean up- yeah he's definitely my child.
