Sapporo Snow Festival

We took a trip to Hokkaido to see the Sapporo Snow Festival, which is the largest of its kind in Japan. It was freezing for us Toykoites who have been pampered by extremely mild winters. Luckily Mema and Pepa supplied Kai with an adorable snow suit that kept him nice and toasty. He was actually very funny-he fought me pretty hard when I first tried to put it on him but by the second time he realized we were going outside again he gladly stepped right into it. The above sculpture was called 'Northern Zoos' and are supposed to represent Sapporo Maruyama Zoo and Asahiyama Zoo.

Kai absolutely refused to walk on the snow. We carried him literally everywhere.

These photos were from a day trip we took one weekend to a
little town on the outskirts of Tokyo. In the above photo, Kai's standing next to ball like figurines of Daruma (a Chinese monk). The belief is that you buy these balls when you wish to achieve something special in life. You write down your wish on the ball and color in one of Daruma's eyes. When you have achieved your desired goal you then fill in the second eye.

He really looks so much like his daddy in this photo.


I just love seeing him walk like such a big boy now
and with such purpose.
