Around the Globe

In an effort to travel more, raise our children to be internationally minded people and always keep their creative juices flowing,  I came up with the idea of visiting a new country every Saturday evening. Our weekly adventures start with the spin of a globe and Kai's little finger pointing to a spot. Where ever he lands is our final destination. From there we research and make traditional food from that country and either Naoto or I look up a few fun and interesting facts about the country to discuss during our meal. First up:

[Canada] Where we found out is the country who eats the most macaroni and cheese in the entire world. Our meal consisted of some nice refreshing Canadian beer, lentil soup with Canadian bacon, mac and cheese (of course) with Canadian bacon and mashed pumpkin and cauliflower with Canadian bacon.  By the end of the meal we all pretty much had our fill of Canadian bacon.

[Bolivia]

Very simple meat, potatoes, carrots, but they use lemon as a means of seasoning.

[Iceland]

Lots of fish and seafood flavored with dill and a rather stiff, kind of bland bread.

[Democratic of the Congo] We jokingly thought we would all be sharing a UN biscuit for dinner but to our surprise it was one of the tastiest cuisines we sampled.  We made a stewed meat with tomatoes and onions. Along with a cabbage salad with steamed potatoes, carrots, cauliflower, broccoli and beets with a dipping sauce that consisted of mayo, cocktail sauce and dried chile.

[Kazakstan] Very yummy skewered beef with a veggie pilaf and homemade pork dumplings with a yogurt sauce

[Argentina] Empanadas, cornbread, endive topped with avocado and tomato dressed with a light vinaigrette.

[Mexico] Chicken mole and beef tacos.
